I never really considered a career in radio until I was in college. I was a musician in middle and high school and originally planned to pursue a degree in music production. Though I didn’t know it at the time, the Lord had other plans for me. I did not get into the music program, and I had to figure out what I should do instead.
Having also been an athlete, I decided to pursue something involved with sports. I played hockey in high school, and remembered pretending to do play-by-play announcing for other games at tournaments we attended. That’s when I found out about Appalachian State’s college radio station. I took the class needed to get on the air, and I was hooked. This was a great learning experience for me because I learned the ins and outs of radio, including the finer points of play-by-play calling for all kinds of sports for the school and nearby Lees-McRae College.
However, realizing that I wanted to work in radio was not the most important thing that happened to me in college. During my sophomore year, I came to faith in Jesus Christ. I grew up in church, but until the summer of 2021, I never knew that I was lost. The Lord opened my eyes to my condition and called me to Him, and by His grace, I turned to Him.
Having met Lynsey in college, we got married right after graduation and began our professional careers. She began to teach and I worked as a college sports radio producer. In August, 2023, the Lord sent us our first child, Michael. I began searching for another job, and also felt a call to ministry, but I wasn’t exactly sure what form that would take.
I left a job as a car salesman and a day later, Lynsey and I were listening to the radio in the car and BBN was playing. Lynsey’s family introduced me to this ministry. I made an offhand comment about how it would be cool if I could work for BBN. Minutes later, she found BBN’s job posting for an On Air Host and encouraged me to apply. The rest, as they say, is history.
I’m so blessed that God has allowed me to use my professional training for the cause of His Kingdom. BBN is a truly wonderful gospel ministry and I can’t wait to see what else the Lord has in store for all of us. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. I pray that God would use me to bring encouragement to you.
